Professional Experience

Administrative Assistant to the First Year Writing Studio
East Carolina University, Greenville, NC - September 2011 to present
  • Supervised 15+ graduate students, maintained student and studio schedules, and managed the adjacent computer lab.
  • Created, wrote, and edited the First Year Writing Studio website, worked on the English department and Writing Foundations websites, designed posters for departmental use, and redesigned and reorganized the First Year Writing Studio tutoring space.
  • Served as the photographer for some departmental functions and as an administrator for the ECU Department of English Facebook page.
  • Organized and redacted sensitive information from departmental personnel records, managed the financial deposits for several departmental organizations, updated the undergraduate files in their entirety, coordinated to complete new hire paperwork for incoming tenure-track professors, and helped with graduate student registration.


Rhetoric and Composition Instructor
Clemson University, Clemson, SC - August 2010 to May 2011
  • Created and organized lesson plans, responded to daily emails, and set up appointments for student conferences.
  • Taught students methods to analyze rhetoric in multiple mediums, to use rhetoric in both creating argumentative essays and video presentations, and to become professional students.


Writing Center Tutor
Clemson University, Clemson, SC - August 2009 to July 2010
  • Tutored students from various academic backgrounds about composition and rhetoric in a one-on-one setting.
  • Communicated directly with instructors about student writing and methods of improving writing in the classroom.
  • Aided in the creation of a simpler appointment system, a more open workspace for students, and new methods for writing centers to connect with students.
  • Articulated the creative direction and aided in the filming of the Clemson University Writing Center film aimed at increasing the number of writing center users.

Awards, Presentations, and Publications

Co-led breakout sessions on multimedia writing for students in middle and high school at ECU's National Day on Writing, October 2011.

Introduced American poet Mark Bibbins at the Annual Clemson Literary Festival, April 2011.

Presented "An American Tale Goes West: Appropriating the Dominican Republic in Alvarez's Butterflies" at Manifest Identity, NC State Association of English Graduate Students Symposium, February 2011.

Contributed to USC Upstate's "Pursuing Graduate School in English Literature," May 2008.

Awarded a semester-long Center for Undergraduate Research assistantship in African American masculinity studies as supervised by Department Chair Dr. Peter Caster, January 2008-May 2008.
